- Village suppliers like us sell ex-godown: you book the vehicle and pay freight; we pack and load free.
- You have four main options: your own vehicle, a hired lorry or mini-truck, a transport or parcel company that collects, or an online truck-booking app.
- Small orders travel cheapest as part load or shared loads; large orders justify a full vehicle.
- Give your transporter the pickup address, loading hours, approximate weight and volume, and what the goods are.
- Count everything at loading. After loading, the goods travel under your arrangement with your transporter.
Many good products in Tamil Nadu come from villages far from the big transport hubs. Ramanathapuram district is one of them. Buyers often find a supplier they like and then ask, “but how do I get the goods here?” If you are wondering how to book a lorry for goods from a village godown, this guide walks you through the choices, step by step.
I am Gokul from Ramnad Agro, a family wholesale business in MPK Valasai, Ramanathapuram, since 1998. We supply palm leaf mats, coconut leaf brooms, palmyra brooms, palmyra fibre rope and mature coconuts. We work pickup-only, so every one of our buyers solves this transport question. Here is what works.
How ex-godown pickup works with Ramnad Agro
- Get a quote and confirm. Send your products and quantities. We quote the current godown rate.
- Pay 50% advance to book the order. We prepare it; for example, stock orders of mats are usually ready in about 3 business days and brooms or rope in 3–5 business days.
- Arrange your transport and pay the freight directly to the transporter.
- Book your pickup slot on our pickup booking form with the vehicle details and date.
- Vehicle arrives: pay the balance, and our team packs and loads free at 8/784, MPK Valasai, Ramanathapuram – 623523, between 6 AM and 8 PM, any day of the week.

Your four transport options
1. Your own vehicle
If you already own a pickup or lorry, or a relative or partner does, this is the simplest option. You control the date, the driver knows your goods, and you can combine the trip with other business in the region. It makes most sense when you are within a day’s drive or already have a vehicle coming south.
2. A hired lorry or mini-truck
You hire a whole vehicle from a local lorry owner or broker in your town, or in the Ramanathapuram area. You agree a fare for the trip, and the vehicle carries only your goods. This suits full loads and buyers who want a fixed date. Ask for a closed body or a good tarpaulin cover for mats and brooms.
3. A transport or parcel company with door pickup
Many transport companies run regular routes between Tamil Nadu towns and other states. Some collect from the supplier’s door and deliver to their branch or your door in your city. You pay by weight or space used. This suits smaller orders, such as 50–100 mats, a few bundles of brooms or 100 kg of rope, that do not justify a whole vehicle. Ask whether they collect from MPK Valasai or need the goods at a nearby branch, and how many days the route takes.
4. Online truck-booking apps
Several apps and websites let you post a load and get quotes from truck owners, or book a mini-truck for a trip. They can be useful for finding a return-trip vehicle, which is often cheaper because the truck would otherwise travel empty. Compare quotes, check the vehicle size and body type, and confirm the pickup address carefully, because a village address is easy to mistype.
| Option | Best for | Main advantage | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Own vehicle | Nearby buyers, regular trips | Full control of date and handling | Driver time and fuel for a long trip |
| Hired lorry or mini-truck | Full loads, fixed dates | Only your goods on board | Paying for empty space on a small order |
| Transport or parcel company | Small and medium orders | Pay only for what you send | Transit days, handling at hubs, pickup coverage |
| Online truck-booking app | Finding return-trip trucks, quick quotes | Many quotes in one place | Verify the vehicle, driver and exact address |
Choosing the right vehicle size
Mats and brooms are light but bulky, so the vehicle usually runs out of space before it runs out of weight. Coconuts and rope are the opposite: compact and heavy. Use these approximate capacities as a starting point, and always confirm with your transporter.
| Vehicle | Approximate capacity | Typical use for our products |
|---|---|---|
| Tata Ace / small pickup | About 750 kg | Trial orders: 50–100 mats, a broom MOQ, rope |
| Bigger pickup (Bolero / Dost class) | About 1–1.5 t | Mixed small orders; 1 t of coconuts |
| Lorry 14–19 ft | About 3–7 t | Several hundred mats with brooms; mixed loads |
| Large lorry 20 ft and above | About 9 t and more | Full loads of brooms, coconuts or mixed stock |
To estimate weight, use our product figures. These are approximate:
| Product at minimum order | Quantity | Approx. weight |
|---|---|---|
| Palm leaf mats (6×3 ft) | 50 mats, two bundles of 25 | About 60–90 kg |
| Coconut leaf brooms | 100 bundles of 10 (1,000 brooms) | About 350–500 kg |
| Palmyra brooms | 100 bundles of 10 (1,000 brooms) | About 500–750 kg |
| Palmyra fibre rope | 100 kg in 25 or 50 kg coils | 100 kg |
| Mature coconuts | 1,000 kg | 1,000 kg |
For mats, the bundle count matters more than weight. Tell your transporter how many bundles of 25 you are collecting and the mat size, and ask how many fit. More detail on bundle sizes is in our palm leaf mat sizes and packing guide and on the palm leaf mats product page.
Tell us what you need and your city. We confirm the quantity, approximate weight and number of bundles, so you can book the right vehicle.
Part load, full load and sharing a lorry
Full load means the whole vehicle is yours. It is the fastest and simplest option, and the goods are handled less, but you pay for the whole vehicle even if it is half empty.
Part load transport in Tamil Nadu and between states is common for small consignments. Your goods share a vehicle with others, and you pay for the space or weight you use. It is usually cheaper for small orders, but transit can take longer and goods may be unloaded and reloaded at hubs. Wrap and mark bundles clearly.
Sharing a lorry with other buyers is a practical middle path. Many shop owners in one town team up: one lorry collects mats and brooms for several shops, or a buyer combines our products with other goods from the Ramanathapuram or Madurai area. Agree in advance how freight will be split and how each buyer’s goods will be marked.
A full lorry also helps on the purchase side: larger orders get a better per-unit rate. If you are building a regular trade, our guide on starting a broom and mat wholesale business explains how to plan order sizes.
What to tell your transporter
Most transport problems come from missing information. Give your transporter all of this in one message:
- Pickup address: Ramnad Agro, 8/784, MPK Valasai, Ramanathapuram – 623523, Tamil Nadu, with the map location from our Delivery page.
- Loading hours: 6 AM to 8 PM, seven days a week. Give the planned date and arrival time.
- What the goods are: for example, palm leaf mats in wrapped bundles, coconut brooms in bundles, rope coils or coconuts in bags.
- Quantity, weight and volume: number of bundles or coils, approximate total weight, and for mats and brooms, that the goods are bulky.
- Covering: ask for a closed body or a good tarpaulin, especially in the monsoon.
- Delivery address and contact person at your end.
Then book the slot on our pickup form with the vehicle number and driver’s phone number, so our team is ready when the vehicle arrives.
Documents
We provide an invoice for your goods. Whether you also need an e-way bill or other documents depends on the goods, their value and the route, and the rules can change. Check the e-way bill and invoice requirements with your accountant and your transporter before the vehicle sets out. Share your billing details with us in advance so the invoice is ready at loading. We do not give tax advice.
On loading day: count everything
- The vehicle arrives and the driver calls our team.
- You pay the balance before loading.
- Our team packs and loads the goods free. Coconuts are weighed; rope coils are weighed on commercial scales.
- The driver, or you on a video call, counts bundles, coils or bags as they are loaded and checks them against the invoice.
- The load is covered and tied, and the driver leaves with the invoice and any documents you have arranged.
Counting at loading protects everyone. If the count is agreed at our godown, there is no doubt later about what left.
Risk after loading
Because we sell ex-godown, once the goods are counted and loaded onto your vehicle, the journey is between you and your transporter. Before booking, agree with the transporter who is responsible for loss or damage on the way, whether the goods will be covered against rain, and whether you want transit insurance. A good cover and tight tying matter most for mats and brooms. When the goods arrive, store them well; our guide on storing mats, brooms and rope without mould explains how.
A sample plan for a first-time buyer
Say a shop owner in another state wants to test 50 palm leaf mats and 100 kg of rope. A simple plan: request a quote, pay the advance, ask two or three parcel transport companies in the home city whether they collect from Ramanathapuram district, compare transit time and charges, book the pickup slot, and count the goods at loading through the driver. For a later, larger order of brooms and mats together, the same buyer might hire a 14–19 ft lorry and share space with a nearby shop.
For product choices before you plan transport, see our palmyra products guide and the coconut vs palmyra brooms comparison.
Send us your products, quantities and city. We quote the current godown rate, tell you the bundle count and approximate weight for your vehicle, and pack and load free when it arrives. See the Delivery & Pickup page for details.
